They take care of everyone else, but can’t take care of their own. Sound familiar?

Many businesses have gotten to the point that they are more focused on generating new business vs. taking care of their current customers needs. One reason for this is that in today’s society people are too busy to complain when they are not satisfied with the service they are getting.  Many business know this and are not afraid when someone threatens to “tell on them”.

What the businesses often don’t realize is they would probably generate even more business if they did focus more on their current customer base and work on getting new customers afterward.  Word of mouth is the best advertisement and it’s free!

If you are a customer, the next time you hire a new company for a service, look for someone that has a history of taking care of their existing client base. If you don’t feel you are getting the service you deserve, speak up or take your business else where. If you are a business owner, don’t promise what you can’t deliver. Deliver what you can promise then go the extra mile.

So whether you are a business owner or a customer, what drives your business?  Customer Service or Customer Satisfaction

stressed_brideOnce engaged everything switches over to wedding mode. There are so many things to look at and prepare for.  Of them all the three most important are the facility or location, the entertainment (band or DJ) and the photographer and/or videographer .

I’m constantly asked “when should we book our entertainment?”, yet the average time frame for booking entertainment is 3-6mos before their date.  In fact many brides end up booking the photographer and/or videographer first.   With most brides booking their location 1.5-2yrs out why are they waiting so long on the entertainment? Maybe because many resources lead brides to believe they should be booking their entertainment between 3-6mos before their date. So when should you book your entertainment?

  1. First ask yourself the question:  “How important is the entertainment?” Are you just looking for music or something more?
  2. Prices and availability can range significantly depending on the quality you are looking for.
  3. For quality entertainment start looking 1 to 1.5 years before your date or as soon as you book your location.
  4. You should set aside at least 10% of your wedding budget for your entertainment. It doesn’t mean you’ll spend that much, but it will give you a range to work with.
  5. Schedule consultations to meet with different companies. Ask to meet the actual Entertainer/DJ that would perform for your event.
  6. Bring someone you trust to help you make decisions.
  7. Ask lots of questions not only about the company but also based on your needs.
  8. Don’t wait too long. Bad entertainment will make your $5,000 pictures look about as good as the $500 dj you hired.
  9. Watch for the scare tactic “we are filling up fast” or “other people are looking at that date”.  Don’t be pressured.
  10. Book your entertainment when you feel comfortable, and when the company has earned your trust and confidence.
